Movie Review: Elevation – A Fast-Paced, No-Nonsense Monster Thriller

I just watched  Elevation  starring Anthony Mackie, and I have to say—I really liked it. It wasn’t deep or profound, and yeah, I guessed the ending, but that didn’t take away from the fun. It’s one of those movies that just  works  because it knows exactly what it is: a fast-paced, action-packed monster thriller that doesn’t waste time trying to be anything more. It reminded me a lot of  65  with Adam Driver. You know, that kind of movie where you’re thrown into the action quickly, there’s a solid (if not groundbreaking) storyline, and the pacing keeps things moving so you’re never bored. And honestly? That’s all I wanted from it. I feel like so many movies these days try too hard to be some deep metaphor or overly complicated epic, and they forget to just  entertain .  Elevation  doesn’t make that mistake. I also love that we’re finally getting more good monster movies again. Hollywood has been drowning us in remakes, sequels, and franchise ...

Good books are rare

Warning: I dictated this blog post in a bit of a hurry but I will come back to edit it later. I was just excited that I actually found a good book to read. So happy that I had to blog it. I used to read just about anything voraciously. Even if i wasn’t enjoying a book I’d still finish reading the entire thing. But that was ages ago probably when I was in my 20s. I’m 49 years of age now and I just do not have time to finish a book if I know it’s going to suck. And I can tell pretty fast if the book is going downhill. So imagine my delight when I manage to discover a book that I want to read. To be honest, I am amazed that I have managed to find a book a week in 2025. That is surely a sign of a star to a good year. A couple of winners that I recently read was The Husbands by Holly Gramazio, and The Glitch by Leeanne Slade. And now I’ve come across another romantic comedy novel with a science fiction and fantasy twist. Contemporary books that are absolutely right of my alley and fra...

Writing across genres, my journey as Suz Korb

As a writer, I’ve experimented with many genres—some successfully, others as one-off explorations that I ultimately chose not to publish. While I’ve written erotica, historical horror, and contemporary sagas, those stories don’t truly fit with the core of what I love to write. My main body of work, under my pen name Suz Korb , is a blend of Young Adult and Romantic Comedy —two genres that naturally flow from me and bring me the most joy. Why I Love Romantic Comedy Romantic comedy is, without a doubt, the genre that comes most naturally to me. There’s something about crafting a story full of humor, witty dialogue, and characters who find themselves in chaotic yet hilarious situations that feels effortless. Comedy is my favorite element to weave into a novel, and I love creating characters who navigate life in a way that’s both relatable and laugh-out-loud funny. What makes romantic comedy so versatile is that it can blend seamlessly with other genres. There’s contemporary rom-com with...

Rewatching Lord of the Rings again

Some people say they do  Lord of the Rings  marathons. I say  Lord of the Rings is just my background noise for life. I have all three extended editions running while I eat, while I sit around, while I do nothing at all. Fifteen-minute chunks at a time, pause, return, repeat—until I reach the end of  Return of the King  for the umpteenth time. Then I’ll probably do the same thing with  Rings of Power , because why not? See, good new content is rare. I don’t waste my time on garbage. There’s too much of it, and I have to be in the right mood for anything new anyway. But when something is  excellent , I latch on. What’s the last new thing I actually enjoyed?  65 . Yeah, it was exactly what you’d expect—humans, dinosaurs, fast-paced chases, and a narrow escape. I’d just rewatched  Jurassic Park , so it fit the mood. But let’s be real: dinosaurs probably didn’t look anything like what scientists claim. Give people a pile of cat bones and they’ll ...
