As a writer, I’ve experimented with many genres—some successfully, others as one-off explorations that I ultimately chose not to publish. While I’ve written erotica, historical horror, and contemporary sagas, those stories don’t truly fit with the core of what I love to write. My main body of work, under my pen name Suz Korb, is a blend of Young Adult and Romantic Comedy—two genres that naturally flow from me and bring me the most joy.
Why I Love Romantic Comedy
Romantic comedy is, without a doubt, the genre that comes most naturally to me. There’s something about crafting a story full of humor, witty dialogue, and characters who find themselves in chaotic yet hilarious situations that feels effortless. Comedy is my favorite element to weave into a novel, and I love creating characters who navigate life in a way that’s both relatable and laugh-out-loud funny.
What makes romantic comedy so versatile is that it can blend seamlessly with other genres. There’s contemporary rom-com with city life drama, workplace rom-com filled with office mishaps, and even magical rom-com where supernatural elements add an extra layer of fun. I’ve played with all of these subgenres, and I love the endless possibilities that come with them.
And while romance is often a key ingredient, I’m particularly interested in stories where the focus isn’t necessarily on landing a man. There’s so much room in rom-coms for stories about personal growth, friendships, career struggles, and hilarious life experiences that don’t have to revolve around traditional romance.
The Magic of Young Adult Fiction
Young Adult (YA) fiction has always been another favorite genre of mine, and a big part of that is the ability to blend in magical or supernatural elements. There’s something about writing for young adults—where characters are discovering themselves, making bold (and sometimes reckless) choices, and dealing with life’s biggest changes—that keeps the storytelling fresh and exciting.
YA fiction isn’t just about coming-of-age narratives; it’s a genre full of possibilities. It can be contemporary, fantasy, sci-fi, or even horror, and I love weaving magic into my YA stories to make them even more dynamic. Whether it’s a teenager discovering a hidden ability, stumbling into a world of supernatural chaos, or dealing with life’s struggles in a humorous and magical way, YA allows for so much creativity.
Sticking to What I Love
Over the years, I’ve experimented with other pen names and genres, but at the end of the day, I always come back to what I love most—writing as Suz Korb in Young Adult and Romantic Comedy. These genres give me the freedom to explore humor, adventure, and the magic of storytelling in ways that feel the most natural to me.
If you enjoy books that blend comedy, adventure, and a touch of magic, then my stories are for you! Stay tuned for my upcoming releases—I have plenty of ideas in the works that I can’t wait to share.
